History of Touch Footy in Gladstone

Touch Footy was formed in Gladstone in 1974 by an unnamed Catholic Priest. It was first played at Fry Park under lights, then moved to the Showgrounds, as the competition beefed up they moved to Blain Park. There were no lights, so games had to be played on a Sunday.  It was too hot to play day games so they moved to Chanel college.  Team members would bring eskies of drinks for their team and they would stay and watch other games, in true country spirit, the Association would eventually sell beer out of eskies.

From Chanel the games moved to Briffney Creek which also shared the grounds with 3 other sports, Junior Rugby League, Baseball and Cricket which required a pitch in the middle of fields, of 3,4,5 and 6.

The year 2000 saw Gladstone celebrate the official opening of its renovated Club House at Briffney Creek Fields. It was Steve Marsden's vision and dedication, which has been the driving force behind the extensions.  The improved facilities not only benefit the Association members and players, but also benefit the Gladstone public as an alternative to existing venues available for functions.
